Pa-Auk Method – Jhana Meditation

This post may not be practical for beginners but it can show the place of jhana states in the practice of Buddhist meditation. Jhana refers to a high level of mental state characterized by stability of the mind, peacefulness & strong focus. Some schools of meditation claim that the attainment of jhana is not necessary for Enlightenment. In contrast, the Pa-Auk lineage affirms the necessity of jhanas in meditation.

Aside from Jhana meditation, Pa-Auk method also deals with certain phenomena that meditators encounter – such as the appearance of light, visions, etc.

PTBF also believes that jhana is a vital component of meditation. Here is a 14-min video about going from basic-level meditation to advanced breath meditation and the jhana states.
